Ingredients

  • 6 large apples peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  • Place sliced apples in the slow cooker.
  • In a small saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Stir in brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth.
  • Pour butter mixture over apples and stir gently to coat.
  • Add vanilla extract and lemon juice, mix again.
  • Cover and cook on low for 4–6 hours, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve warm as a side dish or dessert.

Notes

  • Use firm apples like Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji to prevent mushiness.
  • Add a pinch of cloves or allspice for extra spice depth.
  • For thicker sauce, remove apples at the end and reduce sauce on the stovetop before pouring back.
  • Serve as a side dish with pork or chicken, or as a topping for pancakes, waffles, or ice cream.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for 4 days or freeze up to 2 months.
