Keto Philly cheesesteak Roll Ups

Keto Philly cheesesteak Roll Ups

Patricia Packard
There’s something about the savory, cheesy goodness of a Philly cheesesteak that’s just irresistible. I remember the first time I tried one—it was on a road trip through the East Coast with my family, and we stopped at a little mom-and-pop shop in Philadelphia.

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
  • 16 Onces Ground beef
  • 1/2 Medium onion, sliced
  • 1 Bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 Teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 Onces Cream cheese

Instructions

1. Preheat and Prepare

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat to prevent sticking.
Tip: Preheating ensures even cooking, and parchment makes cleanup a breeze.

2. Make the Cheese Wraps

  • Place small handfuls of shredded Monterey Jack cheese on the baking sheet, shaping them into circles about 4 inches in diameter. Bake for 5-7 minutes or until the edges start to brown and the cheese is bubbly.
Tip: Don’t overbake—watch closely so the cheese doesn’t become too crispy to roll.

3. Cook the Filling

  • While the cheese bakes, heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned. Drain any excess fat. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers and cook until tender, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce and cream cheese. Mix until smooth and creamy.
Tip: Soften cream cheese beforehand for easier blending.

4. Assemble the Roll Ups

  • Let the cheese circles cool for about 1 minute (they should still be pliable). Spoon the beef mixture onto each circle and gently roll up.
Tip: Use a small offset spatula to help lift the cheese if it sticks slightly.

5. Serve and Enjoy

  • Arrange the roll-ups on a platter and serve warm.
Optional: Garnish with chopped parsley or a sprinkle of chili flakes for an extra pop of flavor.

Notes

  • No Buttermilk? No Problem: If you ever want a tangy cream base, mix 1 cup of milk with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar and let sit for 5 minutes.
  • Want a Spicier Kick? Add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes or diced jalapeños to the beef mix.
  • Dairy-Free Variation: Use dairy-free shredded cheese and a plant-based cream cheese.
  • Make It a Meal: Add sautéed mushrooms, spinach, or zucchini for extra nutrition.
  • Avoiding Overcrisp Cheese: Keep an eye on the cheese in the oven; too brown and it won’t roll well.
  • Fixing Thick Filling: If your filling is too thick, add a splash of heavy cream or broth to loosen it up.
