In this article, I will share 10+ SEO tips for blogs that helped me increase my organic traffic to Google in less than 2 months.

10+ Blog SEO Tips For Beginners

1. Prior to writing any post, choose the right keywords

This is the biggest mistake bloggers make. They don’t target keywords in blog posts and they don’t get ranked on Google.

Wait! What Does “Targeting a Keyword strong” Mean?

Okay, let me simplify. A keyword is a query that users type into google to find relevant results.

You can search for “How to Lose Weight” on Google. This is a keyword.

If you want your blog to rank higher for the keyword “How To Lose Weight”, you need to target this keyword in your post.

If you are trying to rank for How to Lose Weight but your topic blog is How I Lost 10 Pounds In Just 2 Months, you won’t rank.

To target a keyword in blog posts, you need to add that keyword in title, meta description, slug, and inside article body (with 1% keyword density)

All of them will be discussed in the following article.

How to Choose the Right Keyword?

A beginner should choose a keyword that is very competitive and easy to rank.

One keyword is more competitive than long phrases.

It will be easier for you to rank for keywords that are more specific and long.

For example, It is easier to rank “How to Lose Weight Without Cardio”

The SemRush tool is my personal favorite for finding long-tail keywords that are low in competition.

2. Optimizing Your Post Title

Now that you’ve finalized your keyword it is time to add it to your post title.

Two steps are required to optimize your Post Title SEO.

  • Your targeted keyword should be included in your title. For better results, you can add it at the start of your title.
  • Your Post Title should be attractive and catchy so users are attracted to it.

This is how a perfectly SEO optimized title should look.

As you can see, I have included my main keyword in the title. I also mentioned the current year so the user knows that the content is new.

You can also make it more clickable by including 5 tips. This will attract users’ attention in search results which will increase your CTR.

3. Slug: Add keyword

Wait! !

What is a slug, you ask?

A slug is a URL that’s short and easy to use. It can also be customized to include your desired keyword. Here’s an example.

www.yourdomain.com/how-to-lose-weight

You must set your permalinks to “Post name” before you can make any changes in the slug. You can access your WordPress settings to do this.

WordPress offers three options for editing slugs.

Classic editor users can click on the URL present below the title to make their changes.

For Glutenberg editor – Click the document and scroll to the bottom, where it says Permalink.

The third method to modify your permalink is with Yoast.

4. Optimize your Meta Description

A meta description is a brief summary of the article under which your title appears. It can be found in google search results.

Meta description is a key component of SEO and in grabbing users’ attention.

When writing a meta description of your blog post, there are two things you need to remember.

  • Your meta description should contain your main keyword as well as a related keyword, i.e synonyms
  • Your meta description should explain to users what your post is about, so they will click on it.

How do you write a meta description?

The Yoast SEO plugin can be used. Scroll down to the bottom, and you’ll see a meta description option within the Yoast SEO setting.

5. Your Blog’s Bounce Rate is What You Need to Focus on

The bounce rate refers to the percentage of visitors or people who leave your site after only reading one page. The following scale can give you an idea of the bounce rate.

26-40% Awesome
41-55%: Average
56-70% Higher than the normal, but possibly due to the niche
70%: It is up to you to solve it.

Google Analytics allows you to monitor your blog’s bounce rates and make adjustments.

Why is a Bounce Rate Important?

Google ranks web pages based on bounce rate in search results.

A low bounce rate on your blog means that visitors are unhappy with it and Google will not rank it.

How to Increase Bounce Rate?

These are some tips to help improve the bounce rate of your blog.

  • Speed up the loading of your pages/posts (Optimize your blog speed).
  • Use clear Meta Descriptions and Titles that are accurate
  • To make your blog posts more readable, use small paragraphs.
  • Use bullet points and headings to help your audience understand your topic.

6. Add Related Terms to Your Blog Post

Google is a bot. It understands your blog post only by keywords and phrases.

You can increase your ranking by including more keywords related to your topic.

7. Optimizing your Images

Your blog’s ranking is also affected by the quality of your images. Images of larger sizes will increase page loading speed and Google doesn’t like slow pages.

To compress images, you can use this Jpeg compression or Png compression tools.

Don’t compress your images too much. This will reduce the quality of the image and make it less user-friendly.

You can also optimize your images by adding alt text (Alternative text) to them.

Alt-text will display the text if your image fails to load for any reason.

Google uses alternative text when it displays Images results for image searches.

This means that if your keyword is included in the Alt Text of your image, your images will rank in Google Images. This will bring you more traffic to your site.

The classic editor and Gutenberg editors both have the option to add Alt text to images. This means you don’t need to download any third party plugin.

8. Add Internal Links

Internal linking is the addition of links to your past posts to your current post. Interlinking posts should only be done when they are closely related.

It is not possible to link the “How do I lose weight” article with the “Best washing machines to purchase” article. Linking should be relevant.

Linking will allow your readers to learn about your past posts. If they are interested in the topic, they will click that link to land on your other post.

This will redirect your traffic to other posts and increase page views.

More pageviews = Higher earning

Googlebot can also benefit from linking to better understand your blog and content.

9. Add External Links

External links are when you link to other websites that are relevant. Your rankings will be boosted by linking to relevant websites that are in the same niche.

It also offers quality information to users, which is often mentioned on other websites.

Make sure you check ” Open the link in a new tab” whenever you’re linking to other websites. The link will be opened in a new tab, and the visitor won’t leave your site.

This will increase the time it takes to get a visitor to sign up and also improve your ranking.

10. Creating Relevant Backlinks

Backlinks are created when someone places your URL on their website. Ranking is determined by backlinks.

After completing all 9 steps, and publishing great content, you will see a boost in your website’s ranking if you can get some high-quality backlinks from quality websites.

You must ensure that websites linking back to your website are in the same niche as you. A backlink from a Food Blog to a Health & Fitness Blog is not possible.

Be careful about relevancy.

How do you create backlinks? These are the best ways to create backlinks.

  • Comment on blogs and leave a link.
